Despite the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, Bayside Literacy Center applied for and received a $900 grant from the ProLiteracy National Book Fund. Bayside was able to choose from a wide selection of books from New Readers Press to meet the range of students served. Selected resources included picture dictionaries, novel book sets, advanced vocabulary and skill-building books, citizenship study materials, as well as numerous workbooks for beginning through high intermediate learners.
Bayside Literacy Center has delivered many of the books to students who were able to continue learning online through Zoom. The remainder of the books will be made available to all students once in-person classes are permitted to resume at the Linda Vista library branch located in San Diego, California. These books will also be an unexpected and valuable tool toward rebuilding the ESL program post-pandemic. The Bayside Literacy Center and Laubach San Diego extend their deepest appreciation to ProLiteracy for its support.
